Led by 4x4 All-Around MVP Wide Receiver Kevin Alley, Offensive MVP Quarterback Jon Mowl and First-Team All-Stars Defensive players Clay Parks, Fletch Kuehne and Jarvis Beaver, the Showstoppers went undefeated with a 4-0 record, winning the championship game over the SoCal Flying Squirrels 26-20 who were led by Defensive MVP Zach Lotane, all-stars Michael Lizarraga and Spencer Montan.
With few seconds remaining and the score tied at 20. The Showstoppers were 40 yards away from the end zone facing overtime. Mowl rolled to his left and threw a deep ball to Derrick Williams who caught it one-handed in the end zone to break the tie and clinch the Super Bowl championship in a hard-fought game.
On the road to the championship, they defeated the Angels 44-20, Aerial Attack 34-32 and SoCal 20-18 before qualifying for the championship. After the first defeat, SoCal had to play their way to the championship game, beating ATX 19-14 before losing again to SICD.
The championship game was played well after 10 P.M. in the unexpected cold Austin night with game-time temperatures of 35F degrees in front of an estimated crowd of eight fans at Atkins High School.
The 4x4 squad was known for their long ball, usually scoring on drives with three or fewer plays. The 44 points in their first-round match-up against the Angels was good enough for the highest single-game total of the tournament.
The Showstoppers Offense scored 124 points in four games, averaging 31 points per game while the Defense allowed only 90 points with a 22.5 average.
SICD President Danny Gabel was also named Coach of the tournament for 4x4.
