With a dominating Defense, the Showstoppers shut out three out of four opponents, including the two-time defending champions Game Over/Movers twice, 6-0 in the second round and the final score of the championship game was 20-0. Led by one-armed Defensive MVP Kevin Alley who had a cast on his right arm, the defense allowed only two touchdowns - 16 points - all in one game to five-time champions Aerial Attack.
The surprising Showstoppers, only in their second year of 8x8 existence, went to the championship game, first defeating the NWO Bluestreak (Ohio) 20-0, Game Over 6-0, and Aerial Attack 19-16 before awaiting the losers' bracket to play against in the Championship game.
Game Over eliminated Aerial Attack 14-6 for the right to play for a rematch in the championship game against the Showstoppers. The championship game served as motivation for the Showstoppers who wanted to have revenge over Game Over who defeated the Showstoppers in the 24th USFFD Super Bowl in Columbus, Ohio.
The play of the championship game was marked when Game Over were two yards away from the end zone. Quarterback Cy Saunders called a quarterback sneak and headed straight behind his lineman. However, Saunders fumbled the ball after bumping it into his own player's back and the ball bounced straight up in the air.
The always opportunistic Charles Palmer came down with the ball and took it 100 yards for a game-breaking touchdown. Palmer also had a 65-yard touchdown on a halfback screen, his play-making skills earned him All-star honors. Clay Parks and Brian Tingley also received first-team all-star honors while Willis Cook and Jarvarous Faulk earned second-team all-star honors.
Showstoppers quarterback Jon Mowl was named the all-around 8x8 MVP as he consistently frustrated opposing defenses with his double threat ability of scrambling and throwing arm. His running continually picked up first down in key situations and his arm found receivers for big gains.
Coach Warren Keller was also named coach of the tournament.
